Biffy Clyro Announce Surprise New Project ‘The Myth Of The Happily Ever After’

After playing unforgettable sets at Reading and Leeds festival, Biffy Clyro have announced a surprise new project titled The Myth Of The Happily Ever After, out October 22nd.

Recorded as a reaction to the band’s 2020 A Celebration of Endings, it’s a homegrown project that also serves as a “rapid emotional response to the turmoil of the past year.”

Recorded during lockdown, they made the album in six weeks in their rehearsal room located in a farmhouse near their homes. Originally, the band wanted to complete unfinished songs from their previous record, but as it started to take shape in late 2020 they realized it was something else entirely. Though the band traditionally records in London or Los Angeles, this represents the first time they’ve recorded in their homeland of Scotland.

“This album is a real journey, a collision of every thought and emotion we’ve had over the past 18 months,” explains frontman Simon Neil. “There was a real fortitude in A Celebration but in this record, we’re embracing the vulnerabilities of being a band and being a human in this twisted era of our lives.”

Neil continued saying “Even the title is the polar opposite. It’s asking: do we create these narratives in our own minds to give us some security when none of us know what’s waiting for us at the end of the day?”

Biffy Clyro previews the release with the new song “Unknown Male 01.” Listen to it below.

The Myth of The Happily Ever After is available for pre-order here. The album will be released as a limited edition red vinyl which includes an exclusive bonus CD featuring full audio of the livestream show that Biffy Clyro performed at Glasgow Barrowland to commemorate the release of A Celebration of Endings last year.

Last month, Biffy Clyro shared their cover of Metallica’sHolier Than Thou,” which appears on The Metallica Blacklist, out September 10th.
