Brent Hinds, Former Mastodon Guitarist, Has Died
Brent Hinds, former singer/guitarist of Mastodon, has died. He was 51 years old.
Atlanta News First broke the story, announcing Hinds died in a motorcycle crash in southeast Atlanta on Wednesday night (August 20th). According to a police report, Hinds’ Harley Davidson collided with a driver who failed to yield while making a turn at an intersection.
Mastodon confirmed the news and issued the following statement via Instagram:
“We are in a state of unfathomable sadness and grief… last night, Brent Hinds passed away as a result of a tragic accident. We are heartbroken, shocked, and still trying to process the loss of this creative force with whom we’ve shared so many triumphs, milestones, and the creation of music that has touched the hearts of so many. Our hearts are with Brent’s family, friends, and fans. At this time, we please ask that you respect everyone’s privacy during this difficult time. RIP Brent.”
Hinds formed Mastodon with Troy Sanders, Brann Dailor, Eric Saner, and Bill Kelliher in 2000. Though he appeared on all eight Mastodon albums, things took a sour turn earlier this year when the band announced they were parting ways with Hinds. He recently took to social media to call his former bandmates “horrible humans.” The rest of the band has not responded to Hinds’ comments.
Our thoughts go out to Hinds’ friends and family during this difficult time.
