Coheed And Cambria And Rick Springfield Team Up For ‘Jessie’s Girl 2’
Coheed and Cambria have teamed up with Rick Springfield for “Jessie’s Girl 2” a sequel to Springfield’s classic hit.
“Jessie’s Girl 2” continues Springfield’s narrative of losing his love to one of his friends with an unexpected twist. Frontman Claudio Sanchez pitched the idea to Springfield on Instagram Live. Springfield was so impressed he agreed to it instantly.
The song’s accompanying video stars Springfield as a bartender while Coheed and Cambria perform the song as the story unfolds before them. Watch the video below.
Talking about the song in a statement, Sanchez said “Has anyone ever written a sequel to another artist’s song? I don’t think so. As a fan of movies, it just seemed like a really interesting idea.” While the song picks up where Springfield’s hit left off, it doesn’t have a fairytale ending, with Sanchez explaining, “It’s kind of like a National Lampoon’s movie meets So I Married an Axe Murderer.”
“Jessie’s Girl 2” will be released as a 7-inch single on September 4th. Along with the vinyl, Coheed and Cambria are also offering various bundle packages, featuring a T-shirt, hat, and more. Pre-order a copy here.
