Damon Albarn Previews New Album With ‘Polaris’

Damon Albarn has shared his new single “Polaris” from his new solo album, The Nearer the Fountain, More Pure the Stream Flows.

The Gorillaz and Blur frontman also shared a performance video of the new track. The video is part of a new series titled “Sublime Boulevards – Performance Films,” featuring Albarn with a full live band alongside a string quartet. Directed by Toby L, founder of Transgressive Records, the series will feature choice cuts from Albarn’s upcoming album and will premiere new videos leading up to the album’s release.

Originally intended as an orchestral piece inspired by the landscapes of iceland, Albarn recorded the album in his barn with André de Ridder and Simon Tong. “I did in January. This January in my barn and I had two other musicians there and we were just wearing parkas,” Albarn said during an interview on Mark Rosnon’s The FADER Undercover podcast. “It was dusty and freezing. Everyone ended up with lung problems. It was awful. But I’m kind of glad we did it because it created a great atmosphere on the record.”

The Nearer the Fountain, More Pure the Stream Flows drops November 12th.
