GENRE IS DEAD! Premiere: Hear Michael Blum’s New Song ‘Promises’

LA singer/songwriter Michael Blum teams up with GENRE IS DEAD! for an exclusive premiere of his latest single “Promises.” Listen to it below.

Speaking about the new song, Blum says “When we wrote ‘Promises,’ there was a lot of uncertainty in my life, and that uncertainty is what the song is about. At the time, I wasn’t living in LA full-time, but I was leaning towards moving there. However, my girlfriend wasn’t so sure about moving to LA. ‘Promises’ narrates that stage in my life and in our relationship. I was at a point where I was honestly asking, ‘where do we go from here?’”

The song, which Blum worked on with Dutch songwriter Benjamin Samama, also marks his pop producing debut. “Self-producing is extremely rewarding, but presents its own challenges,” he says. “When self-producing, it’s harder to see the forest for the trees, because you can get so wrapped up in the details. There were definitely some sleepless nights working on little things, like finding just the right synth sound.”

“Promises” follows the previously released single “Taking You Back.” Be on the lookout for Blum’s new EP, which is expected to drop later this year.
