GID! Top 5 Albums in 2017: Editors’ Picks

1. Enter Shikari – The Spark
Since its release in September, I couldn’t go a day without listening to that record. As always, Enter Shikari’s lyrics are super inspiring and the overall Pop-vibe (with the usual Shikari-edge) made The Spark my #1 banger in 2017. My favorite tracks: “Undercover Agents”, “Rabble Rouser”, “Take my country back” and “Airfield”.
2. Paramore – After Laughter
When I saw the video for After Laughter‘s first single “Hard Times”, I fell in love with Paramore again. The band made a great comeback with this extremely catchy 80’s-inspired, Tame Impala-esque Pop record. My favourite tracks: “Idle Worship”, “Caught in the Middle”, “Rose Colored Boy”.
3. Lorde – Melodrama
I’ve never really listened to Lorde a lot, but Melodrama changed that completely. My gateway was the breathtakingly beautiful video for “Perfect Places”, followed by the catchy dance floor banger “Green Light”. After seeing Lorde’s Melodrama Tour in Cologne, I discovered her back catalog and am in love with her ever since. My favorite tracks: “Writer in the Dark”, “Sober II (Melodrama)”, “Green Light”.
4. The Regrettes – Feel Your Feelings Fool!
Discovering this up and coming Retro-Punk band, was quite the coincidence. The Regrettes opened for SWMRS during their Drive North Tour and I was immediately entranced by the fun and energy of the young band from California. Feel Your Feelings Fool! is full of sass, fun and feminism – a great combination! My favorite tracks: “Picture Perfect”, “Hot”, “WHATTA BITCH” and “Pale Skin”.
5. Linkin Park – One More Light
While One More Light isn’t the typical Linkin Park record that got me addicted from day one, the extremely personal songs ,which showcase an incredible vulnerable side to Chester Bennington’s and Mike Shinoda’s vocals, grew on me over time. After Bennington’s death, the lyrics became even more heartbreaking. Nowadays it’s hard to listen to the record with dry eyes. My favorite tracks: “Nobody can save me”, “Battle Symphony”, “Heavy” and “Sharp Edges”
