Gorillaz Announce New ‘Song Machine’ Single Featuring Robert Smith

Gorillaz are teaming up with alt-rock icon Robert Smith of The Cure for the next installment of their Song Machine single series.

The band teased the upcoming single, dubbed “Strange Timez,” on Twitter with an image of them donning spacesuits standing around a photo of Smith. The song will premiere September 9th at 5:15 PM BST/12:15 PM ET.

The new song marks the sixth entry in the Song Machine series. Previous singles saw Gorillaz team up with ScHoolboy Q on “PAC-MAN,” Octavian on “Friday 13th,” Peter Hook and Georgia on “Aries,” slowthai and Slaves for “Momentary Bliss” and Fatoumata Diawara in “Désolé.”

Gorillaz also announced a visual history book of the band titled The Gorillaz Almanac, which comes out next month. Meanwhile, The Cure have been working on their 14th studio album. At the 2020 NME Awards, Smith said the new album would “definitely” arrive in 2020. A release date has yet to be revealed.
