Green Day Get Into Wild Car Chase In ‘Corvette Summer’
Green Day have premiered their new music video for “Corvette Summer,” taken from their latest album Saviors.
The clip starts with the band presenting their homemade movie to their annoyed teacher, played by Hannibal Buress. The movie itself is a low-budget homage to the 1978 film of the same name starring Mark Hamill and Annie Potts. It’s a wild romp where Mike Dirnt gets his red Corvette “boosted” by Billie Joe Armstrong and Tre Cool. Dirnt eventually finds the car and calls up his buddy, Mark Hamill, to steal the car back. The video ends with Dirnt and Hamill playing a deadly game of chicken against Armstrong and Tre Cool. Eagle-eyed viewers will even see a glimpse of Dirnt’s kids, Ryan and Brixton, in the video.
“The song was named after one of our favorite cult classic movies, so it only made sense to pay homage to it with the music video,” Green Day says. “We even took things one step further and got Mark Hamill (who starred in the original) to star in our remake alongside us, Hannibal Buress, and some others.”
The band adds, “We blew the entire budget on them so we had to get creative with cardboard boxes, some duct tape and matchbox cars we found in [drummer] Tré [Cool‘s] basement.”
