Green Day Developing Comedy Film ‘New Years Rev’

First Broadway, next the big screen! Green Day are developing a new coming-of-age comedy film titled New Years Rev.

Inspired by the band’s early touring days and produced by Live Nation Productions, the movie follows three best friends (Mason Thames, Kylr Coffman, and Ryan Foust) who mistakenly believe they’re going to open for Green Day at a New Year’s Eve concert in Los Angeles.

Per the logline, “Their roadtrip is a rowdy and mischievous jaunt across the country filled with adventures, based on the exploits of Green Day and their years of living in a tour van.”

The film also co-stars The Office‘s Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey. Fischer’s husband, Lee Kirk (Ordinary World), is set to write and direct the movie.

“Van days rule,” Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong said in a statement. “You will drive all night on no sleep then play a show for 10 kids in a basement of a friend of a friend’s house 50 miles east of anywhere you’ve ever heard of. But you’ll do it again the next day, and the one after that. Because you’re doing it with your bandmates who become your family and it’s unlike anything you’ve ever known. It’s electric. Let the music and mischief ensue.”

So far, no release date has been set for the film.

Meanwhile, Green Day are currently on the Asian leg of their “Saviors Tour.” See all their dates here.
