Jimmy Eat World Debut New Single ‘Place Your Debts’
Jimmy Eat World have shared their new standalone single “Place Your Debts,” along with its accompanying video directed by and starring frontman Jim Adkins.
Co-produced by the band with Justin Meldal-Johnsen and co-written with The Faint’s Clark Baechle and Denver Dalley of Desaparecidos, the song is slower than the previously released track “Something Loud” and finds them weighing their risk and what they stand to lose.
Talking about the song’s title in a statement, Adkins explains “The ‘debt’ you rack up is the time you spend avoiding doing the work to know yourself. You buy an ending every time you start something, and the cost is determined by how closely you pay attention to your personal condition.”
He goes on to talk about the video saying“It’s a series of many, many edits of me singing to the camera,” he says. “While every shot is different in terms of background, I’m framed with as close to the same composition in everyone.”
“It is a concept you can’t really scout for,” he adds. “You have to just be aware and be looking for interesting locations all the time.”
