Hear Lizzo Celebrate Female Friendship On ‘Grrrls’

Lizzo has released her new song “Grrrls” taken from her upcoming album, Special.

Using a sample of Beastie Boys’ 1987 track “Girls” Lizzo turns the questionable, misogynist song into an empowering anthem that celebrates the beauty of female friendship.

“‘Cause that’s my girl, we codependent/ If she wit it, then I’m wit it/ Yeah we tussle, mind your business/ Zu, zu, zu, zu, zu-su-lu/ That’s my girl, we CEOs/ And dancin’ like a C-E-ho,” she sings.

Listen to the track below.

“Grrrls” follows the previously released single “About Damn Time.” Both songs will be featured on her upcoming album, Special, which is slated for release on July 15th. Pre-order the album here.

The new album isn’t the only major project Lizzo has in the works. She recently announced an HBO Max documentary about her life, which will debut this fall. Back in March, Lizzo’s competition series, Lizzo’s Watch Out for the Big Grrrls, debuted on Amazon Prime.

Additionally, the singer will embark on “The Special Tour” later this fall. Check out those dates here.
