Metallica Announce The Black Album Covers LP Featuring Elton John, Biffy Clyro, And More

Metallica are celebrating the 30th anniversary of their iconic “Black Album” with a massive reissue featuring covers from over 50 artists.

Along with a remastered edition of the album, The Metallica Blacklist, out digitally September 10th and physically October 1st, features covers from Elton John, Biffy Clyro, Depeche Mode‘s Dave Gahan, Miley Cyrus, J Balvin, St. Vincent, Phoebe Bridgers, Darius Rucker, Slipknot’s Corey Taylor, My Morning Jacket, Weezer, PUP, Cage the Elephant, Kamasi Washington, Portugal. the Man, IDLES, Royal Blood, and Moses Sumney to name a few.

The collection features multiple covers of the songs from Metallica’s 1991 self-titled LP, known as “The Black Album,” including six covers of “Enter Sandman” and 12 versions of “Nothing Else Matters.”

“With contributions from countries all over the globe from the U.S. to Nigeria, there are tracks from singer-songwriters, country artists, electronic, and hip-hop artists alongside punk rockers, indie darlings, icons of rock, metal, world music, and many, many more covering the entire spectrum from musicians we’ve shared the stage with, to some who were not even born yet when the original album was released!” says the band.

All proceeds from sales will be donated to charities selected by featured artists, including Metallica’s own All Within My Hands Foundation. The Metallica Blacklist is available to pre-order in various formats. Metallica will also reissue “The Black Album” in several formats, including a limited-edition deluxe box, a picture disc, three live LPs, 14 CDs, 6 DVDs, a 120-page hardcover book, four tour laminates, three lithos, three guitar picks, a Metallica lanyard, a folder with lyric sheets, and a download card, and more.
