Missy Elliott Drops New EP ‘Iconology’

Yesterday (Aug. 22) rapper Missy Elliott surprised fans by announcing her latest project, Iconology. Turns out we didn’t have to wait long to hear the new material. The five-track EP is available to stream now. She’s also shared her new single “Throw It Back.” Watch the vibrant video below.

“I’m dropping a collection of new songs” the rapper announced in an Instagram post early Thursday. “Let’s #ThrowItBack to a time when music just felt good and made us want to dance! I am humbled and grateful. THANK YOU for allowing me to smell the roses. You, my fans, and God are the reason I am here and have celebrated every milestone with me!”

Iconology marks Elliott’s first big release since her 2005 album, The Cookbook. In 2017, she shared the single “I’m Better” featuring Lamb. Recently, she made guest appearances on Ariana Grande’s “Borderline” and Lizzo’s “Tempo”.

On Monday (Aug. 26), Missy Elliott will be honored at the MTV VMAs with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award. Back in June, she was inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame and received an honorary degree from the Berklee College of Music.
