Paramore Unveil New Single ‘The News’

Paramore have shared their new single “The News” taken from their highly anticipated upcoming album This Is Why.

The song is a damning critique of the vicious 24/7 news cycle and how it can affect our minds.

In a statement, singer Hayley Williams said that “The News” felt “exciting from the start. It feels like a happy medium between classic Paramore angst and bringing in some influences we’ve always had but never exploited.” She also added that “watching Zac [Farro] track drums for this one was one of my favorite memories from the studio.”

“The 24-hr news cycle is just impossible to comprehend. And I feel a pang of guilt when I unplug to protect my headspace,” she admitted. “The common reaction, or non-reaction, seems to be dissociation. Not one of us is innocent of that and who could blame us?”

In case the message wasn’t clear, the band hammers it out in its accompanying eerie music video directed by Mike Kluge and Matthew DeLisi where Williams falls into a hypnotic trance and runs into her inner monster as she’s haunted by non-stop newsfeeds.

Following the album’s release, the band will embark on a 2023 tour with support from Foals, Bloc Party, and more. They will also join Taylor Swift as part of “The Eras Tour” and will headline Alabama’s Hangout Festival in May. Check out all their dates here.
