The Cure Officially Announce Long Awaited New Album, Share ‘Alone’
The wait is finally over. The Cure have officially announced the release of their long-awaited 14th album, Songs Of A Lost World. The record, their first in 16 years, comes out on November 1st. As a preview, the band have shared new single “Alone.”
“It’s the track that unlocked the record; as soon as we had that piece of music recorded I knew it was the opening song, and I felt the whole album come into focus,” says frontman Robert Smith of the song.
“I had been struggling to find the right opening line for the right opening song for a while, working with the simple idea of ‘being alone’, always in the back of my mind this nagging feeling that I already knew what the opening line should be… as soon as we finished recording I remembered the poem ‘Dregs’ by the English poet Ernest Dowson… and that was the moment when I knew the song – and the album – were real.”
Smith wrote and arranged the album. He also produced and mixed the record with Paul Corkett. The band, comprised of Smith, bassist Simon Gallup, drummer Jason Cooper, keyboardist, keyboardist Roger O’Donnell, and guitarist Reeves Gabrels, recorded the album at Rockfield Studios in Wales.
The band have spent the past few weeks teasing the album’s release. Numerous fans received cryptic postcards in the mail with the album title and release date. Fans also spotted Songs Of A Lost World posters around the UK and New York City. The Cure also unveiled a new website with a puzzle that once unlocked invited fans to join the WhatsApp group. Those who joined were treated to lyrics and a clip of the new song “Alone.”
Songs Of A Lost World will be released on various formats, including cassette, 2xCD/Blu-ray set featuring an instrumental version of the album, and exclusive white marble vinyl. Pre-orders are ongoing.
