Watch The Youniverse’s Trippy New Music Video For ‘Riverbanks’

Electro Slovakian duo The Youniverse invite you into their dark, trippy world with their new music video for “Riverbanks.” Directed and edited by Tammy Tarantino, the clip focuses on vocalist Tammy Nižňanská in different settings as she sings. Though it sounds tame, it’s the various effects layered over the singer, such as being filmed in negative, random camera shakes, and jarring pixelated images that turn it into an odd ride. Check out the video below.

Speaking with Pop Matters, Nižňanská describes the song as “the first song I have composed entirely myself, from start to finish, Jerguš acting upon it later as a producer and arranger. It kind of gave us the kick to move our sound a bit more into electronics and use the guitar as a significant stand-alone element rather than focus on the song being riff-based, as we have done up to this point.”

The song is taken from The Youniverse’s upcoming debut album, CMYK, which drops November 30 via BRUUDER Records. Pre-order your copy here and check out the tracklisting below. The band released their debut EP, Raise Hell, Kid, in 2016.
