While You Were Away: Rocklahoma 2024, The Next Nine Inch Nails LP, New Knocked Loose, And More
In this week’s While You Were Away, we’re talking about Rocklahoma 2024, new music from Knocked Loose and Five Finger Death Punch, wondering about the next Nine Inch Nails records, and more.
Five Finger Death Punch unveil new song featuring DMX
Five Finger Death Punch have shared their new song “This Is the Way” featuring late rapper DMX. The collab comes from the deluxe edition of the band’s AfterLife album.
“The idea of collaborating with DMX had been in discussion for years, and it was a long and winding road to turn this particular item on our wish list into reality,” says guitarist Zoltan Bathory.
“He was a lyrical warrior, a true original who spoke his mind incorruptibly. We have always viewed DMX as ‘the metalhead of hip-hop’ because of his aggressive, raw and untamed style. He growled and snarled, aiming to rattle some cages – an attitude we share, as Five Finger Death Punch has always been drawn to the fearless and the real.”

Knocked Loose release new single ‘Don’t Reach for Me’
In anticipation of their new album, You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To, Knocked Loose have shared their latest single dubbed “Don’t Reach for Me.”
Frontman Bryan Garris says the track “may be the meanest song I’ve ever written” and calls it a takedown “of someone who tried their hardest to come into my life and mess with two out of the three closest people I have.”

Nine Inch Nails say they’re “excited about starting on the next record”
Last year, Trent Reznor didn’t seem so keen on releasing new Nine Inch Nails music anytime soon. But it seems that feeling has changed as Reznor revealed in a new interview with GQ.
Speaking to the magazine, who named them as one of the winners of the Creativity Awards, Reznor and Atticus Ross spoke about many projects, including more film soundtracks, a new company called With Teeth, a TV show, and a horror film. They admit that the projects got them interested in making new Nine Inch Nails once again.
“I think coming out of a stretch of a number of films in a row, I want some time of seeing where the wind blows versus: There’s a looming date on a calendar coming up and we better get our shit together,” Reznor explained. “And certainly in the last few weeks I’ve been itching to do what we often do, which is just come in and let’s start something that we’re not even sure what it’s for.”
Doing soundtrack work “managed to make Nine Inch Nails feel way more exciting than it had been in the past few years,” according to Reznor. “I’d kind of let it atrophy a bit in my mind for a variety of reasons.”
Ross added “I do feel excited about starting on the next [NIN] record. I think we’re in a place now where we kind of have an idea.”
