WYWA: Lorna Shore’s New LP, Nine Inch Nails’ Future Ruins, RIP Jacky Blaque, And More
Living in Chicago comes with its quirks, but I never thought one of them would be a dust storm. I was confused when the alert appeared on my phone. Was it a mistake? Or did my phone pick up that I was playing Saints Row (2022), which takes place in a desert? Dust storms don’t happen in Chicago. Is this the consequence of having a Chicago Pope? So that was the highlight of my weekend. Hope yours was less dusty. Anyway, here’s this week’s edition of While You Were Away.
Nova Twins unveil new single ‘Piranha’

Nova Twins have shared their new single “Piranha” taken from their upcoming album, Parasites & Butterflies.
“This track explores growing tensions around the world, which can feel overwhelming at times, leaving you unsure of where to start.”, the band shares. “It delves into themes of confrontation, rebellion, and fear. Using imagery of predatory waters, it symbolises vulnerability, power, and questioning authority. “Piranha” also reflects society’s cutthroat nature, but emphasises coming together and supporting each other. There is strength in unity.”

Parasites & Butterflies comes out August 29th via Marshall Records. Pre-order it here.
Jacky Black, My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult vocalist, dies
Jacky Blaque, vocalist and longtime member of industrial outfit My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult, has died. The band shared news of her passing on their Facebook page, though the cause of death was not mentioned.
“With great sadness we mourn the passing of the one and only Jacky Blacque. Her contributions to the TKK were beyond extraordinary, and her talent and beauty will be forever in our hearts and in the hearts of the many fans who loved her so. Rest in peace our Queen of the Bomb Gang Girlz! Goddess of Mayhem! Mistress of Babylon!”
Blaque joined the band as one of the Bomb Gang Girlz. Her contributions can be heard on various Thrill Kill Kult albums, including 13 Above The Night, Hit & Run Holiday, and Sexplosion! Her powerful voice and commanding presence in the predominantly white industrial and punk scene will never be forgotten.
Our thoughts go out to her friends and family during this difficult time.
Lorna Shore announce new album ‘I Feel The Everblack Festering Within Me’

Lorna Shore have announced their highly-anticipated new album, I Feel The Everblack Festering Within Me, out on September 12th via Century Media Records. As a preview, the band have shared lead single “Oblivion.”
“Writing this song felt like the culmination of all the things that we’ve done in the past, but brought to the next level; a more evolved version of what Lorna Shore truly is,” said frontman Will Ramos. I imagined a post-apocalyptic world in the – hopefully distant – future.
“A world where we have sown the seeds of our own destruction. The idea that we wished for better, hoped we were doing something that would help save us in this dying world, only to end up accelerating its inevitable destruction. This brings up the question: What is right? Do we even know what we’re doing? What have we done to try and actually change anything? Are we watering the earth or just feeding a constantly growing fire?”

Nine Inch Nails announce Future Ruins Festival

Nine Inch Nails have unveiled Future Ruins, a new one-day festival set to take place at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center on Saturday, November 8th, 2025.
