WYWA: Future Ruins Canceled, Green Day’s New Anniversary Box Set, Trivium Part Ways With Drummer, And More

I’m sure a lot of people spent the weekend listening to Taylor Swift’s new album, but personally, I’ve been obsessed with AFI’s 13th record, Silver Bleeds the Black Sun… If you’re a sucker for post-punk and dark wave, I highly recommend it. There’s so much more amazing music coming out this month. What albums are you looking forward to? While you’re thinking about your answer, see what we’re talking about in this week’s While You Were Away, featuring Creeper, Trivium, Green Day, and more.

Creeper unveil cinematic video for ‘Prey For the Night’

Creeper have dropped their new video for “Prey For the Night” a week after the single’s release.

Directed by Harry Steel, the video feels like an homage to 80s B-horror movies. A girl sneaks her boyfriend upstairs, handcuffs him to the bed, and treats him to a provocative dance. Things take a turn when it’s revealed she’s a vampire after his blood. Before she can sink her teeth into him, the Misstress of Death takes her out with one felt swoop of a battle axe. Watch the video below.

“Creeper have been stretching tiny budgets for years, but this time we literally couldn’t have done it without our friends’ support and belief,” enthused frontman William Von Ghould on Instagram. “We’ve had sleepless nights over this video. People put in their own money. My apartment turned into a Halloween workshop full of props and period-accurate food packaging.

“Our friends, old and new, rushed in to lend costumes, design posters, act, build, light, film, edit, and pull it all together. In some ways, it reminds me of the way some of our earliest videos were made, and it might even be my favourite video we’ve ever done.”

Creeper’s new album, Sanguivore II: Mistress of Death, arrives on Halloween. Pre-order it here.

We are delighted to announce 12 new tracks of anger, fear, sadness and death, and to beg for yet more of your addled attention.”

Future Ruins Festival Is Canceled

The moody poster for Future Ruins festival features Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross lurking on the left side.

The Future Ruins festival, curated by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, has been canceled “due to a number of logistical challenges and complications.” It was scheduled to take place on November 8th at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center.

Highlighting “the world’s most influential film and television composers step out from behind the screen and onto the stage,” its lineup included Danny Elfman, John Carpenter, Questlove, Reznor and Ross, and more.

The festival’s social media pages shared the following statement:

“Unfortunately, Future Ruins will not move forward this year. The reality is, due to a number of logistical challenges and complications, we feel we cannot provide the experience that’s defined what this event was always intended to be. Rather than compromise, we’re choosing to re-think and re-evaluate. Meanwhile, we are sorry for any inconvenience and appreciate all the interest and support. Refunds will be automatically issued and ticket holders will receive an email with more information.”

Trivium drummer Alex Bent has announced he is leaving the band after nine years behind the kit. At this time, no replacement has been named for Bent.

“I am beyond grateful for the incredible past 9 years with Trivium — filled with unforgettable moments, music, and friendships that I’ll always carry with me,” Bent said in a statement online. “I’m so proud of every record and tour we created together, and I know Trivium will continue to dominate the world; they’ll always have my support. While this chapter has come to a close, this is by no means the end of my path as a musician. I’m excited for this new chapter, and I look forward to continuing to create, perform, and share music in new ways. Thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way. Your encouragement means the world.”

See his statement below.

Bent, who joined the band in 2016, appeared on Trivium’s last three albums: The Sin and the Sentence (2017), What the Dead Men Say (2020), and In the Court of the Dragon (2021).
