Slayer Announce 40th Anniversary Edition Of ‘Hell Awaits’
Slayer have announced reissues of their second album, Hell Awaits, to celebrate its 40th anniversary.
The new anniversary edition will be released as a vinyl boxset, a CD boxset, and a blood-filled vinyl limited to 666 copies worldwide. The 3-LP boxset includes the original album remastered along with the 18-track live album, Live from Bochum 1985. Bonus goodies include a replica ticket from the Bochum show, a tour poster, a slipmat, a replica merch flyer, a 60-page booklet, and more. Meanwhile, the 3-CD edition includes the original album and a bonus live album, plus a 60-page book and poster.
“It’s the record where Slayer became Slayer,” stated guitarist Kerry King in a press release. “Jeff [Hanneman] and I were still trying to figure out who we were as musicians, and we were both infatuated with Mercyful Fate’s Melissa album during the writing process for Hell Awaits,” King said. “That’s why there’s so few songs and most of ‘em are pretty long. That’s the only time anything like that ever happened with us.”
