Green Day Announce New Album ‘Saviors,’ Share New Single

The wait is over!! Green Day is back to announce their new album, Saviors, out January 19th via Reprise/Warner Records.

Recorded in London and Los Angeles, the 15-track album finds the band teaming up once again with producer Rob Cavallo, who previously worked with them on iconic albums 1994’s Dookie and 2004’s American Idiot.

The band goes on to describe the album as “an invitation into Green Day’s brain, their collective spirit as a band, and an understanding of friendship, culture and legacy of the last 30 plus years. It’s raw and emotional. Funny and disturbing. It’s a laugh-at-the-pain, weep-in-the-happiness kind of record. Honesty and vulnerability. What is Saviors about, you ask?

Power pop, punk, rock, indie triumph. disease, war, inequality, influencers, yoga retreats, alt right, dating apps, masks, MENTAL HEALTH, climate change, oligarchs, social media division, free weed, fentanyl, fragility,,.. What would Andy Warhol do? What would John Waters do? What would Quentin Tarantino do? What would GREEN DAY do?”

As a preview, the band have shared new single “The American Dream Is Killing Me,” which they recently debuted live. Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong reveals the song was one of the last the band wrote for the album, but it left a big impression on the trio.

“As soon as we cut it, we said ‘Okay, that’s going first.’” He also called the song “a look at the way the traditional American Dream doesn’t work for a lot of people – in fact, it’s hurting a lot of people.”

Watch a zombie-fied Green Day rip it in the zombie apocalypse below.

Seems we won’t have to wait long for the next single: “Lots more coming sooner than you think aka November 2nd.”

Pre-order Saviors here.

Green Day will perform this Thursday, October 26th as part of Amazon Music Live’s concert series. Following this, they’ll headline the Twisted Tea Grey Cup Halftime Show on November 19th for the 110th Grey Cup at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton, Ontario. Next year, the band will embark on a stadium tour with Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid, and The Linda Lindas. Details to come.
