PUP Release New Song ‘Paranoid’
PUP is back! The Toronto punk rockers have released their new single “Paranoid,” marking their first new music in nearly two years.
Frontman Stefan Babcock calls the new track “one of my favorite PUP songs we’ve made in forever.” He goes on to say “My favorite part of this song is the breakdown [at] 1:45. It’s the heaviest moment in the song. Zack and Steve are going so hard, I’m yelling about all this sad stuff that’s going on with me, and Nestor is just playing the melody from ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’ on the bass. It cracks me up every time I hear it. So fucking funny. It’s a very PUP moment.”
The song is accompanied by a music video directed by Jeremy Schaulin-Rioux. The clip starts with phone-shot concert footage and quickly turns into a choreographed journey through the venue where the song’s lyrics are strategically displayed throughout. Eagle-eyed viewers will spot various easter eggs, including what appears to be a release date for their new album. Halfway through the video, the camera lingers on a poster of their 2016 album The Dream Is Over with a release date of May 2nd, 2025.
” The video is maybe the first of its kind, a crazy (semi) one-take practical lyric video,” says Babcock. “It’s a live PUP show, where every single lyric in the song is captured in real time by the camera on pieces of merch, the walls of the venue (thanks Sneaky Dees) and splatters of yucky stuff on the floor. I honestly can’t believe we pulled it off. Jeremy directed it. He’s directed most of our videos. The first music video he ever directed was also the first music video we ever made, for our song Reservoir. We’ve been best friends ever since.”

PUP will hit the road supporting Sum 41 on their farewell tour. Following this, they’ll embark on a European/UK tour that starts in May. See all their dates here.
