The Soft Moon’s Luis Vasquez Has Died

Luis Vasquez, the man behind The Soft Moon, has died.

His death was announced early Friday (January 19th) with a statement on The Soft Moon’s Instagram, which reads:

“It is with great sadness that we announce our dear friend, Luis Vasquez, has passed away. Our hearts and thoughts are with his family, friends, and extended music family. We ask to respect their privacy during this difficult time…This is a huge loss and our hearts are broken.”

At this time, Vasquez’s cause of death has not been revealed. A Los Angeles County coroner reported that his death is related to two other deaths at a private residence: Silent Servant aka Juan Mendez and his wife Simone Ling. Mendez and Vasquez were friends and have worked together in the past.

Vasquez released The Soft Moon’s self-titled debut album in 2010. Three more albums would follow including the acclaimed Criminal (2018) and his final album Exister (2022). In 2021, he also released Body of Errors under his name.

Vasquez created his unique sound blending elements of post-punk with electronic and industrial. Vasquez was extremely honest in his writing airing out personal demons related to depression, family issues, and substance abuse. His willingness to be open and honest was often seen as a source of comfort and support among fans.

Our thoughts go out to Vasquez’s family and friends during this difficult time.
