Netflix Is Shooting A Show Based On Gerard Way’s Comic

Netflix is turning Gerard Way’s comic book The Umbrella Academy into a live action series.

The My Chemical Romance ex-frontman published The Umbrella Academy together with co-writer Gabriel Ba in 2011. The book has met with much success. The Umbrella Academy takes place in an alternate history where John F. Kennedy was never assassinated and tells a story of a dysfunctional family with superpowers who are adopted by a millionare to save the world from the “Umbrella Academy”.

The story was originally planned to be turned into a movie, however Netflix has announced that they will be filming a 10-part live-action series based on the comic, due to hit the screens in 2018.

Gerard Way said in a statement: “I am thrilled that The Umbrella Academy has found a home at Netflix. I couldn’t think of a better place for the vision Gabriel Ba and myself had when creating the comic, and cannot wait for people to experience that world as a live action show.”
