South By Southwest Will Go Digital For 2021

South By Southwest has announced the 2021 edition of the festival will be an online event.

The festival announced plans for SXSW Online, a “digital experience” that will feature conferences, screenings, networking, showcases, and other exhibitions. The virtual event will take place March 16th – March 20th.

The event’s Film and Conference offerings will be set up using an application process. Submissions open up October 6th via SXSW’s PanelPicker platform. As for music, the lineup will be chosen by staffers who will prioritize presents and performers who were scheduled for the 2020 event. More information about SXSW 2021 will be announced at a later date.

“The challenge of building a new future is one that we’re excited to tackle,” said CEO and co-founder Roland Swenson. “This has been such a year of change and we, like the entire world, are reshaping our perspective on how we connect. We’re pleased to be working on SXSW Online as part of our program for 2021, and regardless of platform, we will continue to bring together the brightest minds from creative industries worldwide.”
