Deftones Announce ‘White Pony’ Remix Album ‘Black Stallion’
Deftones have announced White Pony (20th Anniversary) featuring remix album Black Stallion out December 11th via Warner.
The album features remixes from producers and artists such as The Cure‘s Robert Smith, DJ Shadow, Linkin Park’s Mike Shinoda, Clams Casino, Phantogram, Squarepusher, Salva and noise artist Blanck Mass and more. The band offers a taste of the upcoming album with a reimagining of “Knife Prty” by Purity Ring.

Back in June, DJ Frank Delgado talked about the origins of Black Stallion during the band’s global press conference saying:
“We would talk about our new record, how good it was going to be and we’d immediately jump to, ‘It’s going to be so good, we’re going to have [DJ] Shadow remix it and we’ll call it Black Stallion.’ I think one time we actually hit him up. He was playing here in town and I was opening DJing and me and Chino kind of cornered him.
“We were like, ‘Hey man, we’re the Deftones,’ and he looked at us like we were fucking crazy. We were like, ‘We want you remix our record,’ and he was like, ‘Deftones? Are you guys ska?’ But he was like, ‘Well, send it to me,’ kind of like trying to get rid of us and we were like, ‘Well, we haven’t actually recorded it yet.’ It was kind of batshit crazy of us.”
White Pony (20th Anniversary) will be released in three formats featuring both the original album and remix albums included. Separate formats comprise of a 2 CD + Digital download, Limited Edition Deluxe Box Set (2 Double LP’s + 2 CD’s), and Vinyl Box Set (2 Double LP’s) will also be available. Find pre-orders here.
