All Time Low dismisses defamation and libel lawsuit
Rolling Stone has announced that All Time Low is requesting the dismissal of the defamation and libel lawsuit they filed two years ago.
Rolling Stone obtained the court document, in which the band’s lawyer asks the court to drop the case without prejudice, meaning the band has the right to revive the case in the future. The suit was filed in 2022 against three anonymous defendants who made allegations that the group sexually harassed or assaulted young fans. The central defendant in the case, Doe 2, was posted a lengthy statement in 2021 claiming to be a former fan allegedly abused by guitarist Jack Barakat.
The band’s lawyer revealed in a new statement that multiple people were behind the accusation who “spun an elaborate, fabricated story posing as a fan who incredibly and falsely claimed to have traveled with the band for more than 10 years.”
“There is no such person and no such incidents occurred. Rather, an investigation revealed that Doe 2 was an orchestrated smear campaign by multiple individuals posing as a fake fan. The investigations identified individuals behind the anonymous post who went to great lengths to hide their identities,” lawyer Michael B. Garfinkel of Venable LLP said Friday in the statement to Rolling Stone. “All Time Low has chosen to handle the matter privately and protect the identities of those behind Doe 2, instead of pursuing further litigation at this time.”
Quincy Jones, legendary record producer, dead at 91
Quincy Jones, the legendary record producer best known for his work with Michael Jackson, has died at the age of 91.
“Tonight, with full but broken hearts, we must share the news of our father and brother Quincy Jones’ passing,” Jones’ family said in a statement. “And although this is an incredible loss for our family, we celebrate the great life that he lived and know there will never be another like him.”
Jones helped helm some of the most iconic albums in music history, including Michael Jackson’s Thriller and Bad. He also worked with the likes of Dizzy Gillespie, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Rufus & Chaka Khan, and Al Jarreau. Outside of producing, Jones was also an accomplished jazz composer. He released his first album, This Is How I Feel About Jazz, in 1956 and continue to find success with 1962’s Big Band Bossa Nova and 1971’s Smackwater Jack.
Jones was one of the most influential figures in music, and his talent will surely be missed. Our thoughts go out to his family and friends during this difficult time.
Coheed and Cambria’s Claudio Sanchez covers The Cure’s ‘Just Like Heaven’
Coheed and Cambria‘s Claudio Sanchez celebrated the release of The Cure’s Song of a Lost World by releasing a cover of their iconic single “Just Like Heaven.”
The cover was released as part of his Claudio Covers series. Previously, he covered Smashing Pumpkins‘ “Stumbleine.”
“This song was introduced to me by some friends as a cover done by Dinosaur Jr,” Sanchez explained. “They were skaters, so the reference to ‘tricks’ at the top of the song conjured up ideas of a smitten lover’s curiosity for executing kick-flips and rail slides.”
He added: “It’s a strange but powerful relationship to have with a song when your introduction is someone else’s interpretation of it. I think that’s why I chose ‘Just Like Heaven’ for this month’s cover.”
